Sociopaths and danger?

How well were you acquainted with the 3 guys? Did you know all of them and if so did you know either a little better, or were you closer to either of the 3 before this incident?

"So could this in anyway be connected to sociopathy? I don't know how most people are."

im not a sociopath (not even close, i dont think), and i relate to everything you wrote.

kinda runs into confirmation bias territory, when you start attributing what i would consider semi-normal ways of being to a label, just because it would explain a portion of it

"There is this commonly held notion that sociopaths don't experience fear."

Yeah, because people don't do any research.

about 50% of men with antisocial personality disorder (APD) present a comorbid anxiety disorder

Early descriptions of psychopathy emphasise fearlessness and a lack of nervousness or anxiety as key characteristics of the disorder. However, conflicting evidence suggests that anxiety may be positively correlated with some aspects of the psychopathy construct. This position may seem somewhat paradoxical when considered alongside impaired processing of fear related stimuli in psychopathic personality. The aim of the current paper was to examine the distinct relations of callous, egocentric, and antisocial psychopathic traits with measures of anxiety and social anxiety in samples of non-offenders (Study 1) and violent offenders (Study 2).

Social anxiety disorder (SAD) and antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) are not often thought of as being comorbid. However, recent research suggests the existence of a SAD subtype with characteristics atypical of SAD but common to ASPD. Thus, we explored two competing hypotheses: (1) SAD and ASPD represent opposite ends of a single dimension, or (2) SAD and ASPD exist on two separate dimensions that may be positively correlated.

This study investigated anxiety and depressive symptoms as potential moderators using a sample of 162 male offenders in the New Jersey correctional system. Results supported a significant positive correlation between secondary psychopathy and suicidal ideation. In addition, depression and physiological anxiety moderated the association between secondary psychopathy and suicidal ideation.

I am too exhausted right now to delve into high-functioning vs low-functioning psychopathy and its relation to fear/anxiety.

OK... sorry to keep you on a string. What was your motivation to save guy 1?  What, other than being called a savior, have you gotten from going to this person's aid?

MissCommunication stated: source post

I heard that people who have experienced childhood abuse often can't judge dangerous situations and therefore put themselves in harms way, thereby re-living more abuse.

For me personally, I know full and well that I will be in a dangerous situation, I don't know if I am subconciously trying to relive said abuse. But that's just the way I tick.
