The OP wouldn't bother writing if he/she didn't have a specific person in mind to discover the identity. Perhaps they have returned, but have already grown bored and left once again. We may never know

There is, I was a regular and most would recognize my typing style immediately if attached to my old handle (I was critiqued and analysed more than once, but most people have been too). But I also would prefer it didn't become a point of conflict.

Then why bring it up?  Why not assume the new moniker and enjoy your little secret?  I think conflict is your final goal... just too how upsetting or vicious may remain to be seen.
