When I was a kid, I idolized Ulysses S. Grant, because he ended the end the Civil War efficiently. Perhaps you can imagine his methods by his nickname, "The Butcher."
I guess you could say I idolized Isaac Newton for a while, because I respected that he almost exclusively cared about what trying to understand reality...or as he seen it, "God's work." The man didn't care to share his findings for the most part; he just wanted to understand the universe. He was a pretty quarrelsome guy, but I had great respect for the unselfish and childlike awe he had for existence.
These days I don't really idolize anyone, but I do respect and admire many people.
