Going to choir is quite a bit of practice although I have fallen out of the habit. But choir singing is a whole different thing than being a vocalist. It actually pays off to have a rather "bland" voice in a choir, the most important thing is that you really sing in tune with the others. I started doing it out of boredom and realized it was fun. All my life before that I stuck to playing musical instruments and thought of that as my thing. Singing was always something for other people.
Saw someone had a little song there. Can do the same. Just remember I sing in a choir so I really don't have any exceptional qualities to my singing voice, still singing is heaploads easier for me than reading (or even talking).
Once I regain my voice from this stupid sickness, I'm all for singing. Both of my parents are art majors, specializing music theory. I was raised singing. And sure, being in tune is the most basic aspect of a choir, but sound quality makes the choir sound like a choir, and not just some random Christmas carolers. This includes the sound quality of each individual voice and the ability to blend. In a good choir, a sucky voice stands out a shit ton and makes everyone cringe to death. It's safe to say that your ¨choir¨ is not a very good one.
