SC2.0 is not ready for use. And that's putting it in generous terms. If chat can't be fixed on the SC 1.0 server, 1.0 should be hosted elsewhere. At least until 2.0 is actually usable. Of course, to do this, we need to convince Luna. All in favour of bailing on this sinking ship and setting up the old forum on a new server?
This place does seem far from ready while the old code's relatively functional (in comparison). Why that code couldn't have been altered and improved upon instead of this "doing it from scratch" approach is beyond me.
I'm guessing that fixing this place up will take a lot of work and time, as she originally assumed that she would have a few months (in Luna time). Having the older code while finding ways to change it's chat into something functional would be better than what this forum currently is.
We'll add a philosophy / mission statement page down the road so people have an idea of the SC/Moon Ninja team (currently all 2 of us) mindset.
Part of the reason is we wanted to get away from PHP. So either a port or a rewrite was necessary.
Another reason is Luna is determined to have her vision of a dynamic, realtime forum which also includes chat.
At the moment we can say that the foundation is laid. We're running with this now. There were a lot of revisions leading up to this point.
The hard part is mostly over. I'm also now a full-time worker for this.
Every move makes members disappear. No idea why but that always happens. I don't think we can spare anyone at this point.
I do like it here, when it works. What would be an alternative software? At least this setup makes it safer against pure script kiddies.
I say we will give Michael and Luna one more chance, but if they blow it, Luna isn't welcome at the new forum. :D How about that?
