Cell phones on planes?

What is the reason that they ban cell phones when you fly? Is there some way you could use them to fuck with the pilots for the lulz?

 

Alternatively, according to Google, the reason is because it would bounce off of multiple cell towers at once and potentially clog up the phone lines as a result? Could one potentially perpetrate a sort of DDoS attack against American cell phone towers if one were to bring enough people and cell phones on a flight?

The only way pilots know where they're going is through communications.  They rely heavily on this.  So, unless you want to end up in Antarctica, keep your cell off when you are told.

Possible interference with the plane communication systems and using your cell to trigger that cleverly designed super potent drano bomb that you planted in the plane toilet for the  glory of allah and his servants.
