How would you go about gaining control of the planet?

Explain your steps and if you feel the need to, say what you would do once you did achieve your victory. 

You already have sufficient funds to cover any expense to shorten things up.

The first thing I'd do is influence others to join me on taking over the world. We would gain personal information on certain government officials in power in several different countries. Then infiltrate military bases in those countries where nuclear weapons are being kept and take control. Being the leader of the operation, I would use the info I obtained earlier to blackmail the government officials and threaten to use the nuclear weapons if they don't meet my demands. This should give me enough power to take over the world.

Of course, realistically, things may not go so smoothly, but it's nice to imagine.

You forgot to mention that you would do all of that from your moms house.

I'd poison the world with some form of addiction and make the cure temporary, pricey, and a means of re-issuing the poison itself. I'd offer full-functioning antidotes only for those who mattered enough to me. I'd keep a dead man's switch that responds to my heart beat connected to a means of destroying the recipe for the cure to the affliction on my person at all times. I'd then make sure anyone else who knew how the cure was made be killed before they muck things up later on, save for one backup technician that would be painstakingly monitored with a remote detonation explosive or five implanted in key spots, a shock collar to keep him penned into his prison of sorts, and a taser implant to stun him remotely. I'd keep on my person a short range chemical agent that mixes adversely with the poison to speed up the process, sufficiently stopping possible assaults and ideally functioning like a form of mace.

The only question left is what to have the withdrawal symptoms be... a progressive reduction in IQ sounds comically dangerous.

If money is no problem, the biggest issue will be time.

Year 1: Buy a private island and develop it.

Year 2-5: Market it as a resort for rich and powerful people.

Year 6-10: Offer more "private" services for certain people I've met who have illegal tastes. Guarantee confidentiality.

Year 11-15: Ask for favors from these friends. Return favors when I can.

Year 16-20: Make tourism to the island by invitation only. Create research facilities for biological warfare, chemical warfare, and nanotechnology. Seek out brilliant minds to work in them. Train the private security on my island to meet the highest military standards.

Year 21: Secretly release a plague in Africa that will kill 95% of the population. If necessary, blame it on a "rogue agent" in one of my laboratories.

Year 22-30: Work with my many influential friends to clean up the mess. Talk a lot about unity and world peace. Criticize the UN as an outdated entity and inspire people to help me create a replacement organization to unite the world.

Year 31+: Run that organization from my secure, self-sufficient private island.
