An interesting phenomenon

So I want to know if everyone experiences this, or if it's just me. What happened was, well this is kind of hard to explain but you know how when you first go to a place, you make this kind of mental map of where everything is and what everything is and how everything relates to everything else?? Well so there's this restaurant that I've been going to ever since I was a kid. Over the years my mental map of the place has changed somewhat, so I perceive the place differently now than I did when I was younger. So today I walked into this restaurant, and it was like my brain couldn't decide which mental map of the place to use, these two different perceptions of the place were overlaid with each other, with the result of my spatial perception totally breaking down. And normally when this happens to me I can make it stop within a couple seconds or so, but this time I just stood there completely disoriented for like ten seconds before I snapped out of it.

I've never really paid any attention to this until just now, when I was thinking about it and wondering if this is a common occurence in people, like is this supposed to be happening or am I going fucking crazy, yaknow?? I used to have this happen a lot more at my old house, when I was watching a movie or something and my perception of the space around me would stop temporarily because I was thinking about what was happening in the movie, and then after the movie was done and I got up, there would be the same thing of several old perceptions of the house competing with each other. Or if I don't have any previous conception of a place then my spatial perception will just stop completely. It's only for a couple seconds, but when it does happen it's seriously unnerving.

Anyone have a similar experience, or have any idea what causes this??

I'm usually too busy thinking about my day plans, convos I had, business issues or daydreaming about cute young trap boys and jailbait whores to do that mental mapping stuff. Honestly it sounds extremely autistic and OCD'ish to make mental maps of IRL things. Hope you get well soon xx

You're, like,  16 or what?  Still growing, not fully grown yet. Spatial perceptions (maps) change.

My home was demolished when i was 13,  been living in increasingly smaller dwellings ever since - it's given me a constant state of claustrophobia, having been deprived of my default, normal & natural 4.5 meter ceiling height and proportionally sized living spaces. I still wake up most mornings with that "WTF / The sky's gonna fall on me" feeling, but i learnt to cope with it.

Still get the occasional dream with my old house & garden, and i wonder how i wold perceive its dimensions now as a grown-up.

Then again, at least 90% of my dreams revolve around buildings / structures / town layouts / transport systems.

What  dreams do you normally get, sinist3r?
