So i like this but when did simulations begin please ask bob
I havent made a topic in a long while. I am rushing my work with the many deadlines I have and I haven't had time to think much. I will take a while to flush out some of the random thoughts floating about in my head.
My friend Bob says he wants to become religious and that life is a game. I frequently have pointless arguments with him about that because I think he's being silly and illogical. Mostly this makes me feel frustrated because he wont change his views, but lately I have been wondering about what he says.
According to Bob we live in a computer simulation with a set of rules. The rules are not real, but everyone still obeys them. Bob says quantum mechanics is the ultimate proof of a computer simulation; extracting more information from micro events is impossible because the quantum computer has only limited memory. Actually he doesn't really understand quantum theory he's just been watching popular science videos on youtube but still.
If life is a game, we are free to do anything. No rules apply and instead of being limited by our mental barriers, Bob says we should only avoid making mistakes that would have real consequences. The world is a playground where you can evolve and the only real mistakes you can do are ones that would lead to severe long-term consequences.
Bob is probably trying to escape stress, and I keep telling him that. Nowadays I think escaping stress is a good thing. A few days ago I wrote the following statement on paper and made sure it is logical: not having stress is good, so escaping stress is good, so playing Bob's game of life is good.
Im leaving my old life behind and starting a new one, and Ill follow Bob's advice for a while to see if its good.
I will be happy to receive your constructive criticism.
"games have rules."
Calvinball puts that notion into question.
As for the topic, stress is good in the right doses. Without stress you can't enjoy things like Roller Coasters and your fight/flight instincts would be stunted. Aiming to escape life's challenges is the quickest way to ignore the potential wisdom you can gain through experiences.
Stress is a good thing, as are many other unpleasantries. Without them you don't grow and lack the means to appreciate the things that are good from lacking bad comparisons to pair them against. If everything good and bad is relative, than knowing only of good things will make those good things eventually become bad themselves.
Don't let Bob watch this video

Alternately, watch it yourself and become even closer with your friend.
