The irony of a purge like the one depicted in the movie would be that the criminals would be more successful in killing innocents around them first.  That is what happens already on a much smaller scale.  So, no, it would not be advantageous to society the way it is today.  The rich would have military backing, unlike what the movie did.  And the government that would enact such a thing would certainly fullfill its interests, so you can forget about the revolt that is probably going to happen in number three.

If the circumstances were similar to the unlikely ones in the movie, you bet your ass the rich would be my targets.

Stay at home.  I don't want to interact with people, and when I need to make people suffer I do so sufficiently in my head.

For those who didn't see the movie: The Purge is about society where all crimes are absolutely forbidden and everybody agreed on that, but once a year, for a period of 12 hours (The Purge), all crimes, included murder, rape, torture and so on are allowed by government.

Now, you have two choices.

1. you can be part of the The Purge and get it all out of your system BUT risking that you may be a target of others actions, too. You may be murdered, tortured, etc...

2. you can stay at home, barricade yourself at safe environment, but you can't have your "fun".

What would you pick?

You can do all of those things outside of that 12 hour time frame, and chances are they would be much less risky.

If I take out the landlord, do I own the building at the end of the night?

I don't see how a fertilizer bomb or something could get me into too much trouble, but how would they credit the kill to me?

At the very least I would be barricaded behind doors with at least some type of firearm. I don't know what makes people think staying at home would be safe.

Nah, I think I'll pass. Great premise though, really, can't wait to spend two hours watching that one.
