Modern art may just be the most prolific.
They're illusions, they give the impression of a simplistic and somewhat meaningless piece that could be easily rivalled by a toddler... But these pieces symbolise the nexus of perennial beauty.
They invite one to take an alternative look, it inspires the curiosity for meaning whilst at the same time condemning such meaning as but a mere distraction of some alternate meaning. Or at the least but a contradictory aspect, that arouses the confusion only to be lead into understanding the folly and falsity of meaning. Or also a precursor, a succession of a previous meaning... And just like the roads of Rome, they all lead to the nexus of the stern foundering of perennial philosophy.
