It's just another excuse to do something interesting or socially eat or drink, which I'm usually more than happy to partake in.

It's something fun to note when it's under a year long, otherwise the yearly's the only one of real note for most anniversaries.

I'd argue otherwise not from definition but from common usage. It might mean yearly, but it's conversationally used for celebrating the distance from the original day.

I like to give people a chance instead of assume they are beyond help.

if people said annual report means a report every month that does not make them right

Also most people with half a brain know what annual means so I would argue that this is more of a problem for idiots and uneducated plebs.

You used the word "implies" instead of "means". Implication doesn't have to conform to a dictionary if it's conversationally used otherwise.

Imply is closer to what comes to mind when it's discussed.
