Hehe, indeed this might be true. :)
I'm also nice to most narcissists I encounter in the wild.
What you see is all there is.. Well, true for all those points. If you wish you can look at any research being done on the subject; the idea is very intuitive in a sense, so there probably is research. If you (or anyone else) finds something interesting we can take a look at it. Otherwise this will be guesswork.
It should be noted that there are many other drives than the stressful ones out there.
I feel people don't really address the question because they feel a sense to defend themselves against the claims of someone being inherently superior to them.
Maybe the statement should be "Narcissists manage to achieve self-centered goals better than most people". If that is the definition of getting further in life, then I feel I can address the topic better.
Anyway, I like the claim. Props!
by BobbyMunglerWhile true, this also leads to massive problems. Any faults that they may actually have they hide from themselves by overusing ego defense mechanisms such as denial. This can end up giving narcs a completely warped and twisted view of themselves and the people around them. So narcs are a lot more fragile than you'd think.
by MirageThing is narcissist boast and act like they're better than everyone to hide the fact that they hate themselves. A narc might have a advantage over ''normal'' people but once the pace slows down they get more and more depressed and weak until breaking point.
Agree with Bob and especially Mirage. Narcs make me want to punch them because they are disconnected from reality, and can't learn and improve themselves for shit. They are stuck and too proud to learn and see their flaws. You can't improve if you consider yourself or your work flawless.
To deny reality can be useful. It isn't all it's cracked up to be anyway. To live in the gutter and be a king is perhaps better than just living in the gutter.
I have denied that something is happening that I don't want to happen. If it isn't something I can affect I see nothing wrong with this. I can also make myself believe/disbelieve things as I see fit. Better that I choose what to believe than someone else does it.
I happened to deny that this post exists so I could't find it when I wanted to edit it. Now I have permitted it to exist again, and lo and behold there it is.
