Management at where I work hired an outside company to do a security audit on the network and systems.  Noone in IT knew about it.  Some people got exposed for having affairs with coworkers, a few got caught talking about doing coke over the weekend, etc.  I've been defaulting to paranoia lately.

It's their computers, networks, telephones and anything else.  They can do whatever they want and it's perfectly legal.  You have no privacy at work.

To get out on the internet now, we boot an OS in a virtual machine on a trucrypted thumbdrive and then run TOR on top of a VPN that tunnels out over port 53 as that's the only open port on the firewall that's not monitored.  Here is a FAQ for those interested in details.

The rumor going around is that someone embezzeled a couple million dollars from the company and the management has responded by turning the place into a slave state.  Metal detectors, bag searches, security cameras, etc.  There is one plus though.

If someone I don't like and a manager are in the break room at the same time,  I'll stand next to them and give a quick, subtle head nod towards the person I don't like.  Shortly after that they'll be in a confeence room getting reamed by HR and security.

I work at a bank.  I get paid pretty good and I have a lot of responsibility.  

When they catch the guy and all of this is over, I'm going to quit and probably move to another state.  I'm getting bored and that's not good for me.  I need a change.
