It's not even work when you're doing what you love!
I was wondering what thoughts you folks had regarding which careers work best for sociopaths. (Not just which jobs you think you could tolerate, but which ones a sociopath would excel at.) For example, I've heard it said sociopaths make excellent Child Protective Services agents, because we don't let the emotional pleas of the parents preventing us from doing what must be done for the child. Also, we make good writers, since our imaginations tend to be very rich, and actors, because of our amazing ability to convince others that we are whoever we are trying to make them think we are. Slight-of-hand artists, or "magicians," bounty hunters, and guns-for-hire have also been mentioned, the legality of some of these professions notwithstanding. There is also the issue of whether or not we would get bored of a job, like working at the DMV doesn't strike me as much of a challenge...
Are there others that you can think of? Do you have any experience in any of these?
Have you seen the film American Hustle? I remember thinking that, if I was Sydney Prosser, I wouldn't have cracked and given away my real name. That I could have kept the facade up to the bitter end, and been very good at it, lol. Anyway, I'm trying to stay within the realm of legal jobs. I'm tiny, I don't think I would do well in jail or prison.
Thank you, both, for the responses.
After seeing the movie The Color of Money, I'd figure they'd make decent gambling con men.
For me, it's any job that allows growth through the ability of manipulation. I program phones for a living. Out of 5 guys, I was the last one hired and the last one left after the cuts. It's the thrill of dominating conversations and painting a fake picture of who I am to them. I find it to be exciting. The job itself is quite boring. I believe that my heavy use of marijuana keeps me from climbing up to high. However, I think most business based jobs ( Potential to climb a ladder) in general are perfect. Again, it's all about that image.
