Because he was outed as a fraud. It was a great movie. I thought he was going to explode he was so mad. There are many websites talking about his his buffonery.

Also a good (But dense) read which talks about the debate over whether narcisism should be classified in the latest edition of the DSM as a trait instead of a disorder as it is so common.

I've followed the DSM-5 debates and I was quite surprised they left things much as they were, they intended very much to rid of NPD. To me, it would have made much more sense to lump it in with ASPD, since it is very much an antisocial thing. However, I'm not displeased with the result (not that it actually affects me, we use the ICD).

Vaknin is very much a black and white thinker so I tend not to take him too seriously. He thinks he has it down and I'm sure it makes sense in his own head.
