Yes indeed, you're right!
The gibbous moon, even though much more often seen than either the crescent or the full, is grossly underrepresented. You won't see many artworks picturing it, it's always either the full or the crescent. Guess it's because it is sort of potato shaped so it never made it into the common iconography as "the moon" - despite it being more common as the other phases.
