More than 250,000 animals are being lined up for slaughter as Nepal embarks on a two-day religious festival where buffalo, birds and goats are sacrificed to appease a Hindu goddess.
Millions of Hindus flock to the ceremony, which is held every five years at the temple of Gadhimai, the goddess of power, in Bariyarpur, Nepal, near the Indian border.
The last time the festival was held, in 2009, more than 250,000 animals were killed, according to animal rights organisation PETA, who is campaigning to put a stop to the practice.

No, the bodies arent wasted. The remains are sold and consumed.
Animals get slaughter in huge numbers for the food industry. People go hunting for pleasure all the time. Why is that acceptable, and this thing outrageous? Just because the reason they do it is not the one that we personally consider satisfying?
Yeah, I can't fully disagree with PETA, but I think if they focused on the pure waste of food, and how the lives of animals that are sacrificed to us, the "Gods", goes without appreciation or full understanding of the privilege and nutritious value of said animals, then what's the real point?

The PETA people need to stfu then. Meat's meat and the starving Nepalese need to eat.
I can see how they occasionally make a good point here and there about unnecessary cruelty during the captivity and slaughter of the animals, but more than half the rants I've read from them are just absurd.
I vaguely remember a Ted Nugent show where he discussed how those PETA people trashed his deerhunting thing. So he tried to donate the meat to a soup kitchen. Do you think those fools would take it? Nope. I think he said he ended up giving it directly to some guy who was out begging. A few other panhandlers understandably refused it, tho (you never know what people think of the homeless or what they might be trying to give you, and venison only keeps for so long in a knapsack if you're sleeping outside.) I guess the 3rd panhandler was poor enough to still have to beg, but at least had access to adequate kitchen facilities.
You'd think they'd slaughter them near a fridge or something.
This summer/spring I hope to find a farmer that will part with the essential organs from the animal.

I heard one guy say then when Hyenas? Are they the big dogs in Africa. I mean if you look at those eyes, they are smart animals. Anyways, they go for the liver and the kidneys. According to someone at least.
So. Liver sure. Kidneys? I don't know so much. I mean the adrenal glands sit right on top of the kidneys. I'd imagine that when an animal is killed that perhaps adrenal glands secrete a massive dose of adrenaline into the kidneys, but to eat the adrenals themselves, sounds possibly really good.
You know, mad cow and all that aside.
Anyways, I did call a few farmers with a parts list. Yup, they are typically trashed and wasted. I don't know about the large industry farms, however, based on people banning feeding offal to livestock in the USA, I'd guess it typically goes into the trash.

Yeah, I'm debating whether or not sacrifices to the "Gods" is an ancient carry over from bringing the best of the best from the people, to governing bodies, that are locked up in temples, or towers, whatever, so they can feast on the best most nutritious foods in a privileged manner.
You know, sacrificing animals at the bottom of aztec temples and such? I don't know though. I just don't know if there are massive burial ground where animal bones sit, and have been picked apart clean or boiled with cut marks and such, or if there are massive burial ground at the feet of temples where there are animal "graves".
