So, people on this forum find out who you are boo hoo what can they possibly do?

Sure it would not be fun but it is not exactly a risky situation worth getting paranoid over.

This all is really unnecessary, you only need a couple of these to deter any average person/troll looking for you. The only way all these rules are necessary is if you've really pissed someone off and they're willing to devote time and effort into looking for you. That being said I wouldn't make too many enemies if had any sensitive information on any social media platform. Hurling rocks at other's isn't smart when you live in a glass house.

Take your information off the web, it's far easier to do than to sit around double checking yourself out of mislead paranoia. Besides, I really wouldn't worry about someone from here coming to do physical harm to anyone.

Which ones seem unnecessary?

My advice that can be taken with a grain of salt because I know there's kids on here in rebellious phases:

1) I know you want to seem cool and send all these pics to people on here, and because of your ages you probably have social media. Be careful about the pics you post, make them hard to reverse. Some helpful tips are not to take any pics of how you would look in real life. That could be interpreted in several ways. But what it means to me is not posting any pics with makeup or straight hair, or with it ever up.

2) Don't be friends with anyone on here on social media. If you don't care about yourself, at least think about the people that on your friends list. Because people on here will go after them if things ever go sour. You can pretend to not care about them and maybe you would say they risked themselves putting themselves on the internet. Which I can see the argument for. But to purposely subject them to bad people is just arrogance.

3) Don't reveal big events. This seems silly, but trust me. Are you going to a fundraiser for people with AIDS? You would be surprised how easy it is to figure out which one it might be - and you never know how someone might be able to get a roster for that event if they so take the time.

4) Just don't reveal your location in general really. Go with a pretend one. Have some basic knowledge. Country is ok. Never reveal your school. A lot of schools in America especially have directories (a select few have public directories) - and it can be easy to find someone even based on first name.

5) If you're going on skype do your research on skype. It is a bad program that for years has been full of exploits. It is borderline safe to chat on skype with a concealed identity, but absolutely do not voice chat. Don't accept files (I do occasionally) but rarely.

6) Be careful about all your passwords and usernames. Randomly generate your passwords. For usernames lurk a forum. Glance your eyes along the page and throw some letters together. Don't trust yourself to make something that won't come back to you.

7) This is an obvious one, but watch the links you click. Who knows what type of grabber might be on them.

8) Watch what topics you click on the forums themselves, because again who knows what could be in the thread itself.

What works for me may not work for you...and that's ok! Just saying you don't have to act bad ass if you don't want to. if I think of anymore I will post them.

Don't leave disordered people with gasoline and expect them not to engage in disordered behavior.

might as well trash your computer while you are at it.

See, it is possible to transmit signals that can actually influence your PC, even if it has no internet connection.

of course, you would need to be a few meters away from the pc with a device.

i dont remember details i was researching that over 6-7 years ago.

so be safe, and use the hammer.

I see this thread has attracted a lot of "Duuuuuuuuhs" and questions such as "What could possibly happen if someone discovered my Facebook account via this site?"

You'd be surprised. This site and its predecessor attract/ed a lot of narcissists who like/d to squawk about their (usually imagined) conquests. They were pretty easily tricked into posting photographs of themselves which could be traced to their Facebook accounts via a basic Google image search, which then led their stalkers to their personal information. Since a lot of these narcissists had been boasting about committing crimes and infidelity, they then found themselves at the mercy of the weirdos on this site. It was some pretty entertaining shit.

All in all Pink's advice is solid but narcissists aren't going to stop posting minor leads to their real life identities. All I'd add to Pink's advice is that you try to avoid making any serious enemies who possess IQ scores above 115 (which rules out a lot of the most hysterical wannabes here).

All of them. Take your info off the internet, keep your mouth closed and you won't have to worry about it.
