I am curious as to why a lot of the members in this comunity are so fearful of other members finding out who they are. What is it about this forum that makes everyone so afraid of revealing there real names? Did something happen in the past that fuels this paranoia?

If I wanted to commit identity theft I sure as hell would not choose to pick someone in this forum. It would be to easy to narrow it down to who it was from a legal standpoint.  Or is it because this community is a safe place for some members to come and say what they want without the fear of having to answer to anyone for it? I can understand that. I can see some people who get stressed out at work or at home and cant say what they wish they could out of fear of the consequences.  Having a place to get it out of your system would be a relief to some.

I know millions of people every day share personal info online to strangers via Facebook or other similar sites and never have any worries of people hunting them down or having there identity stolen and misused.

I'm just curious as to why it is so taboo in here and not elsewhere. I havn't given my name because of the fact that nobody has asked.

I am paranoid about my info mostly because I don't want to be associated what I say here

People here don't like to have their personal information out and discovered because it would ruin their false persona they've established here. I have no problem sharing about myself because I am what I've presented. My accomplishments and achievements are real, I take pride in how I've carried myself. I'm not worried about anyone from this place coming to track me down, no one really should.

I'm fairly open with my information here, the only reason I haven't completely outed myself yet is for the sake of the woman I used to stalk. I can understand not wanting people here to harass your family and friends, but making their information accessible online is a fault within itself. I've left breadcrumbs for anyone who really wants to find me, I've disclosed my last name, state, height, weight, race, and city of residence.

Hell here's even a picture.

You make a good point. I never thought about friends and family. I lack the whole friends thing. But I am social with my parents.

when you receive a death thread, you have to report it to the FBI and never talk about it in public.

if its a legit death thread.

since you are in aus, i'd imagine you have to contact/report it to ASIS or something, instead of the FBI.

I'm not reporting anything to anyone, least of all the fucking cops.

If anyone follows through on any death threat made towards me, I'll deal with them personally.

for a few reasons, but the only one i would tell you is this:

it would be a hassle to convince my(some, the rest know) friends/acquaintances that i got a crazy stalker spilling lies that i am a nazi and i like gore. while it wont be a hassle if it doesn't happen. i'd have to delete a lot of online presence and some local files. i like to be thorough.

and i like to reward people i trust/like with information. if everyone knows it, then its not a reward.

if i disclose the other reasons, they would become invalid.

I enjoy this forum. I wasnt sure if talking to people online would be comfortable for me. But to my surprise it was.  I have never had a issue in the past with my personal information online. This is why I brought up the subject. You all made very good points. That I would have overlooked if I hadn't asked.
