When you're a hammer everything looks like a nail.
The United States new defence budget has gone through the house, it's awaiting approval by the senate. Because c'mon, everybody pretty much knows it's going to go through. The republicans are totally in the pockets of the military industrial complex. I'll detail basically what it will do if it passes:
1: it allocates 63.7 billion dollars to overseas "Contingency operations."
Isn't it funny how when the west wages aggression it's considered inherently good but when Iran does the exact same, or even less, it's overtly condemned by the western media. We can just go into countries and drone strike them without an open declaration of war, so essentially what we're saying is "Hey, we're gonna come and drone strike and kill people but it's not war.. It's just a "Contingency operation".
Imagine if Iran drone striked Alabama... Do you think the west would just dismiss that as a "Contingency operation" or would we go ape shit fucking crazy? Obviously we'd go nuts, people would lose their shit.
2: 75 million dollars to the Ukrainian government.
-_- You know what's going to happen to that money? It's going to go to purchasing weapons from the United States. So let's just lay this out. The United States is giving Ukraine money to buy weapons from the United States and then giving them the utmost support necessary for their success against any "Russian aggression". So only the United States can benefit from this, they're literally making the situation worse by funding hostility. It really goes to show that they have no interest in peace. And in fact, It makes us look like the aggressors. We are the aggressors, we are the terrorists.
3: 351 million dollars to fund Israel's iron dome. For starter Israel can afford its own iron dome, it isn't a poor country... Israel is pretty Economically secure. Israel quite recently was found to just be walking into the pentagons weapons cache and taking weapons. Obama never introduced a major crackdown on that but instead just gave them more tax money. He's talked about increasing relations with Israel in order to "Promote stability in the region."
This is literally Orwellian, where words mean their opposites. "Promoting stability" really means turning up aggression, they're preparing for war. It demonstrates a total disinterest in Any peace negotiations. This has increased, the amount we're giving has increased.
4: 24 million dollars is given to Guantanamo Bay to expand construction.
Obama better veto this whole bill, but I don't see any chance of that happening because Obama hasn't really vetoed As much as he should have. Obama is terrible, even the people who voted for him which was mostly liberals and progressives hate Obama. Perhaps thats why the democrats got their ass handed to them in the midterm elections. Because they're not representing the views of the people who voted for them, and now the number of people who vote has gone down, especially amongst youth, the ones who tend to vote democrat.
5: We are giving 2.9 billion dollars to the Afghanistan ministry of defence. We've already given them 5.8 billion dollars, but of course that money was wasted and we have nothing to show for it. If you look at the dismantling of one of the largest military camps in Afghanistan-Camp Bastion, why are we taking it down? Why aren't we giving that to the afghans in order to build some military infrastructure? Because that wouldn't generate any profit. Again, as with Ukraine the afghans will largely buy weapons off the U.S. Thereby generating more profit into the hands of the private military sector, those that lobby the U.S. Government to fight wars. In order to generate profit you need to keep selling, you can't just have an abundance of tanks and reuse them... No... You have to purchase more tanks from us to keep business going. This is all at the expense of the tax payer you know, keep that in mind.
6: 1.6 billion dollars to the Iraqi security forces, you know, the ones we wasted 25 billion dollars to build and it resulted in thousands literally dropping their weapons, taking off their uniform and running away from about 900 ISIS fighters. So that was a complete waste of money and the equipment just ended up in the hands of the enemy, there's really no long term strategy here it's just about how much profit can we generate from doing this in the now... They have no idea of the long term effects this has, but they don't share the same concern. They look at it from an entirely different perspective, to them it's not about tax money being wasted on funding perpetual war, it's about generating a profit, keeping capitalism working. The profits generated by our tax money as investment doesn't go back to the tax payers, it goes straight into the pockets of General Dynamics, Boeing, etc.
Now stop and reflect on all that I have said, and now think about what that money could have actually gone to. Detroit's water is being turned off, There is no universal healthcare and any attempt at doing so is being brutally smashed by a majority GOP house, like obamacare which was pretty progressive but I think it was pretty clear all along that it was never gonna go through. The society of engineers, rated United States infrastructure at a D! There is so much stuff that we could be doing with that money here that would actually benefit the people.
FIGHT IMPERIALISM!
