Ok, but I have noticed that some people seem to like (for some reason) to be used by psychopaths or persons of similar persuasions. I'd like to know more about people like that... Again, I'm not saying that I am a "psychopath" but I have been drawn to girls who I think were borderline or histrionic.
by Slime Of The LimeAgain, you project. Just because one person experiences pain in a certain situation, doesn't mean another will. Yeah I got glassed (several times) fractured a cheek bone (kick to the face) and was stabbed in the calf muscle but the pain from those injuries hardly registered at all.
To be honest, you really do surprise me, Edweiner...aren't women supposed to have a higher pain threshold than men?
Many people with emotional issues will seek out abusive people. They're happy being miserable in a way. We had a similar discussion on the old forum and self defeating personality disorder was mentioned.
A lot of those who enjoy being around sociopaths are weak people with low self esteem who like to have their decisions made for them, even if it's not in their best interest.
The alternation of punishments and rewards that a manipulative person like a sociopath often applies to his/her victims can be very addictive, mentally. I've heard stuff like: "It's horrible with him, but it's way worse without him." So that's another reason some victims stick around.
There are some masochists who are into being abused by psychopaths because they believe that a psychopath will be more inclined to push their limits. I don't think he/she needs to have a specific diagnosis to be into that kind of thing.
There are others who claim to not enjoy the abuse, but keep coming back for more anyway. I imagine those types have a dependant personality disorder, or maybe they just have low self-esteem and self hatred issues.
