Don't bring a stick to a fight with Goku.
I am confident with melee and ranged weapons. I am not confident with unarmed hand to hand combat. All I know is the stuff I have learned from watching UFC fights.
What would be a good realistic fighting style I could use in real world scenarios ? I was thinking maybe Jiu jitsu or boxing ?
I would appreciate it if someone with experience in mixed martial arts. Could point me in the right direction.
Proficiency in most martial arts gives you a clear advantage in real life. What martial art/fighting style is best suited for you, how easy and rapidly you pick it up, depends more on you than on the martial art itself (body type, natural talent/strengths - some have better balance, some have better speed for example, general mindset, etc).
That said, most people I've met that wanted to learn fast and efficiently some "realistic combat" were very satisfied with Krav Maga. It gives a lot of basic tips and tricks that make you feel you make a lot of progress in a short amount of time. Other martial arts require more dedication and painful training and exercise for best results. So I suggest you start with Krav Maga, see how it goes.
by WW2bring a gun to the fist fight.
What happens if you run out of bullets? Or if the people in the fist fight forget to send you the invitation in time, for you to prepare the gun?
krav maga is nice it will teach u some nice tricks of dirty fighting if u dont know them already
the point is krav maga is not a sport they will get to the important part straight away and forget the wax on wax off bull shit
that said the most effective technique gotta be kick boxing thai boxing or even good old regular boxing if u know how to use ur hands u dont really need to know fancy tricks at all
