There is a sport where women and men are paired against each other. It is called Sex.

I loved sports, but some coaches are wreckless. High school ruined it for me. I joined rugby, it was freezing outside, and my first game the coach decided the strategy was to leave me out until the last 15 minutes? Sort of a calvary charge or fresh batteries.

I said fuck that. I'm glad I did too otherwise I probably would have seriously injured myself. It freezing outside. Never felt so cold for so long in my life. We couldn't even go inside to warm up, or if we were allowed/snuck out, I think we were called back soon after, can't remember exactly.

The only serious injury I remember before that, was when I temporarily blacked out in practice when I slammed into a teammate during practice in football. He broke his arm. So... Okay I didn't black out.

The exercise was to run head on into each other. That was the exercise. Linebacker practice. More or less.

Don't get me wrong, I'm fairly small guy, but back then, I was considered pretty big.

Now that I think about it, back then during rugby, I was mad that I wasn't put in for the whole game. I really wanted in. I don't believe injury was much of a consideration, or it may have been, whatever.

Yeah for some reason I've noticed dance, gymnastics, cheerleading as well as music seem to teach discipline and produce more type A personalities. I think there's a lot of coaches is gymnastics/dance that have narc traits and see their teams as a reflection of themselves and therefore push and push. Lots of competition.

Yeah, it is really not that healthy...it's very rewarding to be able to accomplish things of the sort but physically draining, dangerous and just not good. I don't know how parents can go to competitions and not be half covering their eyes because their child might make the wrong move by an inch and break their neck. I'll happily watch other peoples kids though, because I do find gymnastics fascinating

I have yet to hear a more accurate description of the personality types this sport attracts in its coaches (who are, of course, always former gymnasts thrmselves).

In my experience, the parents are at least as bad, however. They can't usually claim to have been hiding their eyes behind their hands as their daughters perform in the arena - most of the time they're glaring down from the spectators' seats with critical eyes, watching for the slightest falter. I would like my children to become gymnasts, but not if it condemns me to the savagery of some of the "gymnastics parents"'I know, and knew. These people are shockers - some of them would simply be annoyed if their daughter went and broke her spine rather than actually distressed, because a broken spine would put an end to the collection of trophies on the family's bookcases in the living room.
