I've watched all of the movies except for Manhunter and just finished the tv series. I personally enjoyed them both. I thought Hannibal Rising was the best movie. The tv series was interesting, how bits and pieces were added from the movies. Has anybody ever read the books?
Sometimes I wish all critics would be removed from this planet. Ignoring that, I did watch the first ten minutes and the last minute of the review. I think his review was logical though, even though I disagree with some of his points as well. I personally liked all of them with Red Dragon being my least favorite, so I'll have to watch Manhunter eventually.
I've only caught the movies (sadly), but the Red Dragon/Manhunter comparison a friend of mine had me watch back to back. Despite being the same plot, they feel different.
I personally prefer Manhunter, but I wish the villain from Red Dragon were in Manhunter's place. His acting was just better.
Nostalgia Critic wastes a lot of time with recycled dramatics in the name of fan catering, but he covers the differences rather well (even if I don't agree with some of his points):
I prefer Manhunter's Hannibal over the Anthony Hopkins one. Anthony takes a gritty role and makes it too damn theatrical to be believed.
I like critics, they do a service and it's up to the viewer how to treat that service. Seeing a variety of critics talk about the same thing gives a more rounded perspective and an understanding of how the film might seem outside of your own eyes. Occasionally they'll point out things I missed, which can make for further fridge logic.
I found the movies about as hit and miss as he claimed it to be. Some of the details are better left to text and the imagination, when seeing it literally in front of you takes away from the drama. The scene of the brain being eaten has to seem less hammy in the book.
