Classical Music

The term classical music is broad, sometimes vague term that refers to music produced or rooted in the tradition of European or Western art, ecclesiastical and concert music, encompassing a broad period from about 1000 to the present.

BUT

According to one school of thought, musical works are best understood within the context of their position in the history of music. For those who adhere to this perspective, it is essential to fully enjoy these works. A system of division of the history of classical music composition at different periods is widely accepted. According to this system, the main divisions are:

Antique Music: The music before the year 476, about the time of the fall of the Roman Empire. She owned the music of ancient Greece and the music of ancient Rome. With the rise of the Catholic Church as the official religion, religious music takes a leading role (Gregorian chant).

Medieval Music: Prior to 1450 Monophonic chant, also called plainsong or Gregorian chant predominated until the 1100s Music Polyphonic (multi-voiced) was developed from monophonic chant from the late Middle Ages to the Renaissance.

Renaissance Music: Between 1450 and 1600, was characterized by greater use of instruments, includes multiple melodic lines and use the first or low bass instruments.

Baroque Music: Between 1600 and 1750 Characterized by using more colorscomplex, rather than the form, counterpoint, besides increasingpopularization of keyboard instruments (harpsichord and organ).

Classical Music: Between 1730 and 1820, was an important era which established many of the norms of composition and structure. The classical period is also marked by the disappearance of the harpsichord and the clavichord in favor of the new piano, which thereafter became the dominant instrument for interpreting keyboard and composition.

Romantic Music: Between 1815 and 1910 period in which the practice was codified, expanded the role of music in cultural life and institutions were created to teaching, performance and preservation of musical works.

Modern Music: Between 1905 and 1985 period which represented a crisis in valuesclassical music and its role in the intellectual life, and the extenttheory and technique. Some theorists, such as Arnold Schoenberg inhis Brahms, progressive, testing insist that Modernismrepresents a logical progression of trends in the composition ofnineteenth century. Others hold an opposite view, indicating that theModernism represents the rejection or denial of the methodclassical composition.

Music of the Twentieth Century: Used commonly to describe the wide variety of subgenres Romanticism employees post until 2000, including the post-romantic, modern and post-modern.

Contemporary Music: The term is sometimes used to describe music composed in the late twentieth century to the present. specifically means music of our time.

I prefer the school of though, where musical works are best understood within the context of their position in the history of music. But is a personal choice I guess.

I like this one.

When I was child I heard the sound of it in a music box in an old haunted place.
I was fascinated with the melody. But didn't know the name of that song and I hadn't the method to ask anybody about it because I didn't keep the music box, it wasn't mine, so I searched for the name by myself, it take me some time, but at the end I found it. And until today I like that song.

And I like piano too, but i suck at playing it. :(

WHO CARES ANYWAY!!!!!!!, I'm an ignorant. I don't like to culturize myself, I prefer to be an ignorant and avoid the pain other people cause.

and I like this, so what:

What kind of life can I really hope to have?
Living all alone like the monster that I am
“Humans go so quickly
They fall so deep asleep”
Never show the shock
Never hear me weep
You fell in love with the monster that I am
Uniform it suited you
Into war you ran
“Cant we stay together forever and a day”
Living out our lives
Hand in hand we’ll stay
Savor every sunrise and slow the second hand
Giving you a child though the monster that I am
“You alone will grow and then fall so deep asleep”
Never show the shock
But I start to weep
Calling on the snakes I’ve the power in my hands
If they disappeared, I don’t think that I’d be sad
A never ending world made for you and for me
Loving family then we will be
Waiting up for you
Door I closed behind
But you never came
Never wonder “why”
Counting out the clouds that had always floated by
Somehow even sunrise had made me want to cry
Then it finally hit me and brought the final blow
You had ran and left me long ago
Living all alone? Well I’ve had my share of that.
Better just to leave say goodbye and turn my back
Don’t think I’ll forgive you but that heart you broke in two
Even now will always beat for you

Alan - while your chronological taxonomy is no doubt a correct and handy tool for newbies, it's also restrictive and somewhat contrived. Things are a lot more complex than that, what with all the precursors and recollections and cross-references - just take the 1990s fad of composing around the Fibonacci curve yet again, post-baroque / post-gregorian & you name it.

It's not an evolutionary curve but one of  continuum.

There was a good book i loved a lot in my teens,  Concierto Barroco  by Alejo Carpentier - not too far from your wherabaouts, i take it?

Well as I said before is personal choice, I guess .

Words are like rocks in a river, making a bridge, the important is to get to the other side. Communication and understanding, two sides of the same coin. Do u understand me ?

...But..... I could be wrong.

Awww don't feel bad. I'm not well versed in any music at all. Early music is sorta comfort zone of mine (i grew up with it since an infant),  so is 'classical' - i had my play-den (territory was fought by bloody fights with my sister) as a child under the grandpiano, while the grown-ups were hacking away on it.  After the obligatory but short foray into 'popular music' in my teens (due to peer pressure)  i mostly reverted to childhood favourites.

Here's a more user-friendly intro into 'early music':

- or if you're more into 1980s east german teuton glam rock, then try Corvus Corax:

- same tune ^,  different approaches:
