I have a really old PC laptop, old enough for a floppy drive. Wanna swap?
by KatDiamondACER aspire they hardly break. I have one of the older versions and I have dropped it sometimes and it is 7 years old
Used to have one of those.
Now the cat uses it for his dodgy catnip deals.
Was never the same after i switched to windows (cough spit!!) 7.
i'd recommend windows 8.1 pc.. you will want at least 8gb of ram, but if you want less downtime, 16gb would be your best bet. if your gaming, you will need a dedicated video card. at least 1gb ram built into the video card. you may want to make sure the video card your gettign supports dual monitors if you choose to go that route.
in terms of processor, i really like intel, so i5 is the lowest id accept, i7+ is ideal.. quad core is also good, the more cores the better, and then just be sure it has like 2.5+ ghz processor speed, 3.0+ ghz if you're gaming
if you intend to use photoshop, than you will want more like 32 gb ram
if you're building your own pc, its important to keep in mind that you may need to upgrade your power supply, and you also need ot consider the size of your motherboard. some motherboards cant support 32gb ram. the hard drive doesnt really change much unless you decide to upgrade to solid state which i heard was faster.. may wana consider upgrading the cooling as well
You're right I should've more specific. I thought about it and here's what I want:
laptop, i7 cpu, 16GB, 15" - 15.6", 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 screen, bluetooth 4.0, card reader (if possible), at least 1 USB3 port, HDMI output, HD webcam/microphone. I'm assuming that all current laptops come with gigabit ethernet, wireless, and an audio output/headphone jack.
Well I meant to be specific about what you'd use it for, but we all know modern gaming requires the most magic above all else.
A laptop like the one you described is good for years and will still be decent when you want something better.
Laptops on the most part are non upgradable. The graphics chip will be integrated into the motherboard so why not go all out and see if you can find the closest thing to Nvidia's Titan GPU but for laptops.
4th generation i7's are on the market, and Nvidia is whooping ATi in the graphics department thanks to the interactive capabilities of the cuda cores on the board. Usually those cores are in clusters of 50 to a few hundred. Hardware rendering is closer to software rendering more than ever. And more developers are more at home with cuda instead of open GL. You can scrap this paragraph cause if you're getting a gaming i7 machine, you'll probably find the Nvidia is already there.
I don't recommend Alien ware. They are just an overpriced name, use the same parts you can buy, and offer nothing exclusive. And sometimes, they are ugly.
You can get a desktop just as bad ass as your laptop. The thing about the desktop, you can evolve it granted your budget is good to go.
Me ? I can have all these things cause I'm rich. But I'm never in a hurry to replace my i5 laptop, or my 9550 desktop. I ain't playing watchdogs or anything.
