I'm seriously obsessed with the concept of a degrading society and anarchy. I dream of walking through post apocalyptic ruins and surviving on my own means. Thankfully, there are real places like this already.

Listverse has lists of places like that. Do a search for abandoned, haunted, etc. Some of the places are within walking distance of the downtowns of major cities.
