Human Interaction

Now that I don't find the need to identify with a personality disorder resulting from the immense amount of questions asked and answered, I have a new question.

The question is: Is human interaction necessary in order to maintain sanity? Before that's answered, you'll have to answer two sub questions. What is human interaction and what is sanity?

My definition of human interaction, would essentially be any form of social competency. My definition of sanity would basically be the opposite side of psychosis.

Before I end up answering my own question, I'm eager to know what other peoples thoughts are on this irrelevant but almost interesting subject.

Because to leave you alone with nothing but your brain is torture. It is just you for stimulus 24/7. No one can handle that kind of isolation.

Human interaction: sharing self with a like creature (love, hate, care, respect, emotion, language, etc.)

Sanity: complying, comforming, or becoming what is deemed normal in a given culture

No.

Yep. You are screwed without someone. That is why they put prisoners in solitary confinement.as harsh punishment.

Sorry, people need people.

Human interaction is always an act though.  Like, "how are you....oh, im great...cool, good..." then back to what you really think.

I cannot stand the shit really.  The only time that's true for me is when I am alone.  That's when I'm happy.

Honestly, I think I'd stay sane longer without human interaction than I would with constant human interaction.

I went on holiday with some friends, and I was with them all the time. After 4 days, my mind was all over the place. I couldn't think straight, I started saying stuff that didn't fit with the conversation or make any sense, and I just felt a desperate urge to get away.

On the other hand, I've spent much longer with minimal human interaction and been perfectly happy, if not a little bored.

To me, human interaction simply means socializing and/or working together.

Sanity means being in touch with reality, not delusional or psychotic.

I believe everyone needs some human interaction occasionally, but only because we are social creatures and it's something we naturally desire. Even the more introverted types feel the desire to socialize at times. I don't think people need human interaction to maintain their sanity though. If you think about how easy it is to fuck with people's heads, human interaction can just as easily create chaos and disorder. There are a lot of people in the world who are screwed up from human interaction, many of whom experienced physical and/or psychological abuse by others. Hell, when you think about it, even love causes people to act in all kinds of crazy ways.

Would someone really go crazy if they were left in an isolated environment for years on end? No, I really don't think they would if they had no prior mental health issues. As long as the person has some interests or hobbies to keep them occupied (hunting, fishing, taking care of pets / farm animals etc), I think one's sanity could quite easily be maintained.
