"Very obvious" is a dangerous self-limiting statement. Any statement we make can be proven wrong when contradicted with superior evidence, since truth itself is rarely "true".
If you ask me, our consciousness is associated with pain and suffering, followed by the pursuit of ridding of it. It is discomfort itself that gives us the drive to not just sit still, do absolutely nothing, and continue to do so until starving to death.
As I ranted about in an unrelated topic, from my understanding anyway, the misconception of free will comes from not knowing what will happen in advance, which is then reinforced when, after the fact, the former unpredictable outcome doesn't immediately make itself apparent in how it's connected to the great domino effect that follows time. From the sheer number of variables involved, it's easier to accept it as just "mysterious".
We're just a system of difficult to comprehend clockwork that, in due time, we'll be able to predict the trends and behaviors of. Our very ego, generally, does not wish to allow ourselves to feel unimportant, so the notion that our behaviors are automatic is typically haunting, deniable simply for our own sense of Status Quo. "Free Will"s relation to Determinism to me has the appearance of comparing Voodoo or Magic with Science: When the mystery is gone, one becomes the other once it's fully understood. With enough time, any notions of "chaos" will become antiquated.
