Hi,
So I have this idea.. I'd like to put little plug things into electricty plugs-- which when you plug your appliances into and these devices will send signals to your computer letting you know in real time the exact amount of money per hour/week/month/year they are paying as a result of this device.
I've always thought it would be good to build such a device that can be attached directly to the electricty panel in the basement of most houses.
I realize that this has been done on small scales lately, but it really hasn't been done in such a way as to appeal to the masses, but I think it can be done!
All that is needed.. will be some way to have a little digital device measure the currents or w.e, and then send that data to the computer where it iwll be processed.
So in order to ever get investors to even consider investing in such an idea, a prototype will be necceary. So where can I begin? How can I create such a device? I suspect I will need some sort of electricty measuring device, and then someway to send that data to some sort of digital thing, and then somehow trasmit that data to perhaps a USB or something..
My budget is in the hundrds, and I do have a hobby shop around in the local area. There is also the option of buying kits online so any advice would be helpful!

Whenever you want to make something electronic, there's probably already an arduino project for it.
This forum has spell check built into it. How is it still that difficult for you to spell things correctly?
This is relative to the original post in that I can't think of many people that would be interested in investing/purchasing/even doing business when a developer uses such horrible spelling and grammar.
