You guys understand that if marijuana reaches medical status, it will be highly regulated, and as a result more difficult to get now than when it was illegal.
I will also guess that with tight government regulation, that the supply will be ridiculously expensive, and at the same time a burden to tax payers, as those who need the "medicine" will probably get it subsidized.
You might think I am full of shit, but this is the way the world works!
A proposed first-in-the-nation government program would require medical marijuana dispensaries in the District to put aside 2 percent of their profits in order to subsidize pot purchases for poor patients.
Under the regulatory proposal, dispensaries would give at least a 20 percent discount on marijuana to low-income people at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level.
I am very much totally out of the loop as to how much weed costs, but I remember street prices being somewhere in the range of 70.00 for a quarter ounce, and I am in Canada, that is probably more expensive than the USA... this article says...
Medical marijuana sales began in the District at the Capital City Care clinic last month. Prices for marijuana range from $380 to $440 per ounce, according to the clinic’s website.
There are 4 quarter ounces in an ounce, which means 70.00 x 4 = 280.00.
Already you can see the costs have totally fukin skyrocketed... and I guarantee you, they will continue to do so with heavy government regulation, whose goal is to protect industry, rather than introduce free market competition economics...
Specifically, the more mom and pop grow ops they squeeze out of business, is when they will raise the price. Once the corner the market, they OWN the market.

I saw something about the Colorado state run businesses are selling 1 ounce for $500 and I just wondered what the regular price is. I knew it would be high just for the taxes, (that was the politicians only motivation top pass this) and it seems $500 is way too much!
