The Body Does Interesting Things When It Lacks Rest

After about 3 months of insomnia, my body has started doing some shitty things: I'm constantly in some type of physical pain. It's extreme sometimes, but it's more of an annoyance, as it doesn't really affect my behavior. That is, unless it's one of the random rushing headaches that half-way bring me to my knees.

My joints feel like that of an elderly person and I'm now getting petechial-hemorrhaging around my eyes (Blood-vessels pop and bleed under the skin). My eyes-lids feel like they're gonna fall outta my fuckin head.

But, in spite of all that, my social persona is so well-trained, I still have no trouble making friends with brand-new people at my new temporary job on-stage. They're just attracted to my politeness and universal acceptance of behavior - Regardless of how unusual or negatively connotative that behavior is.

Anyways, I was told of someone who hit their head and damaged the part of the brain that releases melatonin for sleep. I was also told this person lived a completely normal life without having to sleep for around 60 years or something. After 3 months, I'm beginning to think this is bullshit.

Do you pass out eventually, or are you trying to claim you haven't slept at all in three months?

Potassium helped my joint issues anyway, not sure if it'll help you.

Otherwise, putting the link I posted in chat here for reference.

Any hallucinations yet, besides pains?

Have you tried anything to ease the insomnia? Do you know any causes of it? I agree with Turncoat, supplements will probably help. I used magnesium, omega acids, and vitamin D for pain and insomnia. Yoga also improved both these things almost immediately even though I was already active. I tried taking melatonin at night and it made me sleep like shit with lots of stressful dreams. Magnesium at night worked better. I don't remember the dose, but I think it was 300% of the recommended daily value.

I also call bullshit on the 60 years of no sleep. There'd be some sleep.. unless they went in some weird veggie state? Sounds like an urban legend based on exaggeration of true events since even mild tbi often affects sleep.

Potassium (and some B vitamins) I actually cover with Vitamin Water Revive, but that was more for the joint pains and aches.

Insomnia-wise not much works.

I've heard that the maximum time a person can go without sleep is 10 – 11 days, and even then some people are left with psychological problems afterwards.

I saw an interesting documentary about the ironically named Peter Trip, the dude who invented the Top 40 and was a very successful DJ in the 1950s. He went without sleep for 8 days as part of a charity fundraiser, and a few days into it started to get hallucinations at the same time as when in the sleep cycle he should have been dreaming. The interesting thing was that he was still managing to go to work and DJ just as normal. Afterwards they thought he recovered, but he was never quite the same and ended up losing his job and his wife because his personality had altered so much.

So, yeah, maybe try sleeping pills or something.

Glucosamine is good for overall joint discomfort

Melatonin is good for helping you fall asleep. It won't help you stay a sleep tho. If you can get some flexeral (muscle relaxer) This will help you stay a sleep

I work a swing shift nights and days. I have deal with the same shit.

I've heard testimonials from men who went overseas, during combat they didn't sleep anywhere from 5-7 days. Most of them never complained about being tired probably because of adrenaline. They did claim to be delusional and even went as far to say that they heard voices of friends and family back in the states guiding them towards the objective.

Sort of skeptical about leaving delusional men behind any form of weapon.

I generally go to sleep around 2 o'clock in the morning and wake up at 5 o'clock in the morning. Although, feels like I haven't slept at all in the past week, most of the time.

No other hallucinations besides pain.

There's no point in doing anything about it because it's not severe enough yet.

And that's what I was thinking.

Interesting. Good thing I don't have any of those (family) things to worry about.

I always heard melatonin was good at increasing the quality of your sleep, even if the quantity of sleep was minimal. Maybe the person who told me that was deluded.

I can remove the "tiredness" from my looks and behavior when I'm continuing my social persona. In-fact, I can remove almost all characteristics of sleep deprivation when I'm around certain people. If soldiers can remove the characteristics of sleep deprivation in the same way, then I'd be ok with giving them a weapon.

The fact that they can differentiate between hallucination and reality is comforting enough for me, either way.

Where's the line?
