Could someone please explain how promiscuity and the like plays into these disorders (sociopathy.bpd)? What is the drive or need behind it?
Better don't shove wildly different traits into the same bucket.
BPDs are on an eternal wild goose chase for a saviour to pluck them out of their misery, they use sex (promiscuity) to source emotional gratification from unsuspecting sexual partners.
Socios (whatever that term means) are just appreciative of physical/intellectual beauty, often of more than one person's at the time - so they tend to screw more people than the general population (at least those with a more somatic disposition).
I'm sure it depends for the individual. For some, sex is their narcissistic supply. For others, it is used as a method of manipulation, power, or control. Some beasts are always hungry. They have an insatiable appetite and eat or destroy everything in their path. And of course, let's not leave out those who have such intimacy issues that sex is like the empty calorie form of love. It's the only thing they want, but its nutritional value is lacking, so they are left starving for more.

What are some of the intimacy issues? Do they know that it is empty calories? When engaging is it an empty feeling or do you think there is pleasure in there? Is the pleasure from the emotional gratification as said above in the first reply? What exactly is that emotional supply? Just wondering.

Lost, you sound…lost. What is it you really want to know? Are you really trying to sort whether she/he cared about you? If so, prob not the way you want.
Fucking is pleasurable for everyone, (except TC, unless he's bound and beaten). The 'emotional supply' is the ego boost that comes from knowing someone is head over heels for you. It's a drunk with power feeling.

Knowing is different from believing. For most on the quest for 'emotional supply', it's wishful thinking (or, as the jargon goes, 'magical thinking' = delusion).
Otherwise they wouldn't be in need of an ego boost.
