I had this idea about a new form of college. It would be a college which offers a teaching program with no homework, and no exams. The only way to get a degree at the college is through original research that contributes to Humanity in some way. Tuition would be free, and online video courses could be used for lectures to keep costs down.
I think we could take such a University a step further. The University could be global. A website which offers the tools necceary for volunteer teachers to educate, and for students to study, discuss, and possibly even find potential employers who can follow your research, and contributions to the college.
Going a step further, I think a committee of old men deciding if research is valuble or not could be done away with, and in it's place, a Reddit-like system-- which allows Humanity itself to determine the value of a student's original research--
I know that in modern society, we are told to get good grades so that we might impress our employers, but the truth is that Earth doesn't need Humans impressing eachother. It needs people following thier passions. By offering free education in any field a student likes, he or she can learn as little or as much as they want with no penalty.
Also, by encouraging students to submit original research, and by allowing non-students to submit ideas for original research that could be done, we can create an envrionment conductive to innovation. I think such an envrionment could provide the world with another level in education, and not only that, but it could also provide businesses a way to better teach, and find potential new employees.
I know it's a vague and sloppy idea, but we have Wikipedia.... an entire online college is only a step further. A step beyond that is allowing individuals and corperations to submit research requests-- which students can then perform, demonstrate competency, and earn a degree. And by allowing a global community to decide what is valuble and what isn't, corruption is completely removed.
Love,
Luna
