Psychopathy Misunderstood Disorder

Along with challenging the assumption that psychopathy is a monolithic entity, perhaps the other most important myth that the authors hope to dispel is that psychopathy is synonymous with violence. Skeem points out that psychopathic individuals often have no history of violent behaviour or criminal convictions. “Psychopathy cannot be equated with extreme violence or serial killing. In fact, “psychopaths” do not appear different in kind from other people, or inalterably dangerous,” she observes. Nor is it clear that psychopathy predicts violence much better than a past history of violent and other criminal behavior – or general antisocial traits.

No. They're all rapists and murderers and serial killers. They target young women.

The problem with this stereotype is that people remain in the dark about psychopathy entirely.

While most all serial killers are psychopaths, they are very rare still compared to the swaths of people who have these symptoms on a spectrum.

While most rapists and pedophiles are psychopathic, there are more predators in your workplace than in the jails and on the streets.

You're actually more at risk to die from these people by how they dominate society as they almost always occupy positions of power. If you look at how an average corporation operates you can see how they propagate psychopathic ideals. They care little to nothing about people and the younger generations are getting more and more screwed over.

You've had that teacher, that boss, that neighbor, who all fit the criteria. They make your life a living hell. If you figure out how they tick and what is actually going on in the world ONE DAY maybe things will change.

There is an interesting story about how a psychopath convinced like seventy people across the nation (by calling fast food places and posing as a police officer) to undress and commit sexual crimes against innocent customers and employees.

They made a movie about it called compliance. Why is it that so many people did such fucked up stupid things because someone on the phone told them to? Because people are groomed in this society - utter brainwashing.

Where are you getting this information from? It seems a bit of a generalisation to say that most rapists and pedophiles are psychopathic.

Most rapists and paedophiles are not psychopathic, and most paedophiles don't even act on their impulses.

This is what I detest most about technology: people have unlimited access to dubious sources of information, which they often taken literally simply because of the format in which the information is presented. If something looks legit on the web, there are always going to be people who believe it to be legit.

Look, if you're really interested in psychopathy, I recommend that you read your Hervey Cleckley and if you must, your Robert D Hare (assuming that you're capable of extrapolating from his research the nature of his sampling techniques). Subscribe to reliable publications (don't bother with "Psychology Today:" that shit's just pop-psychology aimed at bored housewives). Look to "Scientific American," "Scientific American Mind," "New Scientist," and PubMed (if you're interested in biological explanations for psychopathy, which is the locus of research in this area today). Use Google Scholar if you absolutely must rely upon the internet for your research, and bone up on your scientific research knowledge before you do so.
