It does.  But it's worth it ;)

Had a fun time in Bruges in June, every restaurant (and there are loads!!) had huge blackboards out with ASPERGES!!! scribbled on them - felt like Aspie City. 

Yummy. It's awesome in salmon stuffing with butter and dill.

Unfortunately, I have no clue how to cook it properly so it tastes good on its own as a side dish.

Another thing to add to my To Do List, I guess.

Some swear on the bechamel sauce thing, but if you ask me it's best on its own with a good dollop of molten butter.  (Very messy though, make sure you roll up your sleeves and are covered in layers of napkins. One of those 'dirty pyjama day' foods best eaten at home ;)

It's quite good raw, as long as it's green. Blanched, it tastes too bitter.

My family likes it grilled with balsamic and oil and lemon squeezed on top.

Roasted with some cheese on top and a dash of olive oil.

Putting more time into it, asparagus and bacon tart.
