Who knows you're a sociopath?

Hey there, I'm new – so... um, hello.
I wonder who of you told the people
around him that he/she is a sociopath – and if so, how did you do
it? Or did they guess it and you only confirmed their speculations?

How did they react – do they treat
you differently now?

To be honest – I personally think
it's quite foolish to tell anyone, just because it limits your
abilities to manipulate the people around you. It's a disadvantage in
the social game we (have to) play. Still, a few people that know me
were suspicious, but even if I flat out tell them I'm a sociopath –
in the end they just think it's a joke. So even if I wanted to, I
probably couldn't make them believe me..?!

Who knows you're a sociopath?

My small, hand picked and time tested group of friends. When I offered the possibility that I might be a sociopath they had already figured. It didn't change anything besides the addition of a couple mental health jokes during our conversations. A couple of my friends come to me for counseling, simply because of my different perspective.

Revealing that I could be a sociopath wasn't beneficial, I haven't seen it hurt me either.  I agree with you on that, best to keep it to yourself.

I thought about telling at least one or two people that are what you could consider 'close' to me, but then again..

For example: If you're in a relationship and you tell your partner you're a sociopath, that'll probably change everything - and not in a good way. If he is smart, he'll know that you'll never put his well-being above your own. That you might be using him - be it financially or in any other way.

It'll probably end the relationship. I'm just curious, cause I can't imagine such a situation to work out well.

Very few people in the world even know what a sociopath really is. The only reason you would tell them, is to get a reaction.

It wouldn't serve any purpose other than that.

a reaction is not a small thing... a lot of the interaction with people is to achieve some kind of reaction.

that being said, most reactions would have an undesired outcome, most likely. or just an amusing one

If you have friends to tell it to, you're not really that much of a sociopath, are you?

The only reason I tell people is to get a reaction, because it entertains me. The unforeseen advantage is that some people now tell me their darkest secrets because they know, as a sociopath, I won't think anything of anything they say.

I was accused of it jokingly (typically, a few seemed to see it more seriously) from a few perceptive types, if not traits of it, before I eventually looked into it. Sheer repetition mingling with enough time's enough to make almost anyone question a likelihood.

I found out later it was just a trait of a different disorder, so now it can occasionally be fun to correct people.

Edit: Post 3000? When the hell did that happen?
