Go figure, they are less likely to have a strong grip on what is real than the average individual. How prone someone is toward Magical Thinking is a trait that can be exploited by others who know what signs and symptoms to look for.

That being said, even just lightly skimmed I find these sort of articles creepy. When I was really young, I saw religion as covert brainwashing based on how it affected my peer group, and unlike a lot of my former paranoid childhood theories... that one tends to have moments like this article that bring those old sorts of thoughts back briefly.

I still am highly uncomfortable inside of Churches.

I went to a church service with a friend once.

The 'preacher' called me out during the service, put his hand on my shoulder and started chanting some gibberish. The crowd started wailing and chanting in the same half-hypnotic way.

Now, I felt a bit shocked by all of this. There were people on the floor, some on their knees, some going around on all fours.

I'll admit that I was actively resisting this strange influence during all of it, I didn't want to go along with it, because it freaked me the hell out.

This guy started shaking on my shoulder, and started chanting louder. After the ritual, he told me that I was 'strong', whatever that means.

So, I have to say that in most churches, it's mostly just sensationalism, mixed with some new-age/hinduism brain washing going on.

That sort of thing would have probably made me scream out loud as a kid shortly before fleeing for dear life. Full blown Home Alone style screaming. I wasn't prone to respond to things like that, but it would have "confirmed" too many suspicions with a very scary display.

Thankfully I understand what tongues and all that junk is now. Back then I wouldn't have been so lucky. I'd probably have a complex.

Yeah, it's sad how the people in these churches can't, or don't want to see it for what it is.

It's like they believe that fear is the way to salvation, and so they live their lives in fear.

Yes, especially in Mormonism. The superficiality is very clearly seen in how they dress and look that it just screams abnormal here. I would like to know how ME thinks Mormonism is perfect for a sociopath to follow.

I think the article makes it clear that Mormonism itself was started by a sociopath.

I think Joseph Smith, the founder of mormons, was an SP too, as were many founders of modern American religions, like the 7th day adventists, JWs etc. I can't get my head around what makes people join these groups or any religious groups for that matter.

Religion is a huge money maker, what is it that makes people hand their brains over to others enmasse?

Fear's and insecurities. The two most destructive forces on the planet.
