Read this first to see if you can be compelled to give up your password:

Then read this and encrypt your hard drive:

http://www.truecrypt.org/

Illegal things should be used with Tor and anonymous vpn's out of the ukraine

At least in the US you can plead the 5th to avoid releasing your key. It is impossible to hack without a supercomputer accessible to only the likes of the people at the NSA. This was Casey Anthony's mistake when she killed her daughter. Remember that the police can lie to you and will do everything in their power to force you to release the key. You DO NOT HAVE TO in the USA. Pleading the 5th is not a sign of guilt and cannot be used int the court of law. WINDOWS AND MAC PASSWORDS ARE NOT ENOUGH AND CAN BE EASILY BYPASSED. Hard drive lock passwords can be reset. An encrypted hard drive is extremely difficult to hack without the key. Be internet safe, use a computer condom

"n January 2012 a federal judge in Denver ruled that a bank-fraud suspect was required to give an unencrypted copy of a laptop hard drive to prosecutors.[67][68] However, in February 2012 the Eleventh Circuit ruled otherwise - finding that requiring a defendant to produce an encrypted drive's password would violate the Constitution, becoming the first federal circuit court to rule on the issue.[69][70] In April 2013, a District Court magistrate judge in Wisconsin refused to compel a suspect to provide the encryption password to his hard drive after FBI agents had unsuccessfully spent months trying to decrypt the data " Wikipedia

Right, use TORP to be anonymous. That's hilarious. VPNs don't matter either because any provider that has any brains doesn't say no to the NSA. They will give up your information without a second thought.

This is not computer security, and it's barely internet security. Computer security has to do with vulnerabilities and exploits that are on the local system level. You wanna stay anonymous? Don't use your own wifi and spoof your MAC address when you use someone else's; don't use your own cell phone; don't use any public communication service with your own information attached to the servicing account. In other words, don't live legally in society.

Why should Russians be afraid of the NSA?

It's not the NSA they're afraid of. It's the U.S. Who wouldn't be?

What? A little Russian VPN company refuses to give up some information (if they even log information) and suddenly the US is going to do what? Nuke the entire continent? GIVE ME THIS NERD'S INTERNET HISTORY NOW OR I'LL BLOW UP YOUR COUNTRY.

Truecrypt is good, but don't think it is 100% secure. It hasn't been proven that there aren't any backdoors to it. Also 'impossible to hack without a supercomputer' is incorrect. Depending on your password and the encryption it varies.

It's open source but hasn't been professionally reviewed, there is however (or was) a crowdfunded idea to hire a professional firm who are qualified to review encryption programs. You can bet the NSA is already reviewing, or has finished reviewing the code itself to find exploits.

Also there is no guarantee that the program you download from the website is the same as the open source release (and I bet 99% of users don't download the source and compile it themselves).

Also make sure to use a hidden partition, it is easy to set up.

HAHA, as if they need a fucking log. Do you not realize that the U.S. has unrestricted access to International Communications? It can be tracked live, and IS being tracked live. But it takes less work to just ask "nicely."
