You assume that people enter therapy for the sole purpose of self help. But everyone has their own motives.
My psychology classes back in college offered extra credit (a few required so many be done to not lose points) from participating in experiments or otherwise following criteria given from the school's psych department website. One of them was a free three sessions with a therapist, since they probably figure a lot of people who are into psychology have something off about them, wanting to learn more about themselves and the world around them through it.
I received the extra credit once I had done so, but she recommended I keep attending anyway. Having nothing better to do during that stretch of time, and because it was completely free to do so, I kept coming in. She was an open book, one who it was fun to turn the tables on, plus her earnest effort was adorable.

Turn if you and Daddy had a child together just think what it would be capable of. With both of your abilities to mind control and manipulate people. wow lol ......You are both full of shit. lol
No need to lash outwards when your own inadequacies in a topic flare in your mind~
It's closer to her having been an easy person to read. She had understanding of psychology from a book-perspective, but it was clear she was used to more common diagnosis types, especially ones who don't use the knowledge of her profession as a hobby.
Ah yes this is not uncommon in university psychology departments but I've never heard of a therapist one. That's a strange one. That's their way of allowing their grad students or whatever to get their hours probably...your school must have had a large counseling service to allow for that.
