More and more, I am convinced that the values we Humans hold dear... are nothing but ideas that exist as a result of traditions which orriginated by neccessity.
For instance, the idea of Love is a great example of a value most Humans hold dear, yet is there any evidence love exists? Perhaps you could say that... you can learn to love someone by forcing yourself to spend your life with them, and growing used to it, or even fond of it through time. Others think love is an understanding forged through time between two individuals.
The point is love doesn't really exist. It's an idea. Just as the idea of "family" is nothing more than an idea, and value that our society and culture currently tells us to hold dear-- and for good reason.
But it doesn't change the fact that we are shaped by our experiences, and it's clear that our culture indoctrinates us into embracing the values our society and culture embrace. This isn't so bad becasue it ensures everyone gets along, and sees things similiarily, but I think it also increases group think, and inhibits us.
Without the ideas of love, family, and heaven, I'm not sure Humanity would be anything like what we see today. I don't think Humanity in the future will be anything like what we see today either.
I think Humans by default are sociopaths, and it's our culture that turns us into the citizens we are told to be. It might be too late though. As Humans, with the internet, we are now connected into a single consciousness, and I believe this consciousness can and will have the power to make decisions to protect itself.
Just as all of our nural cells within our mind connect and work together to form a consciousness, a broader consciousness has been created by sharing information between our minds with eachother using an encoding and decoding program which our mind can sense, and understand. This program is called writing~! In this way, we all act as individual cells, and the Earth as a whole, or at least the bacteria that lives on top of it makes up a single organism. Fun to think about right?
So even though we are all naturally sociopaths, we are now connected, and I don't think society is going to break down, and chaos will ensue.
Interesting. I didn't know you're a non feeler, luna.
Love exists. What culture gives us are ways to keep love (or more specifically the urge to fight fuck and other behaviours that love compels some individuals toward) from becoming too disruptive to the rest of the group.
I've always viewed our ability to emote as an extension of our sensory apparatus. It serves a similar purpose in terms of navigating through the natural world, social interaction, etc. as our 5 senses. We can live without one or more senses, just as non feelers can live without emotion. But the organism has to learn other ways to protect him/herself from dangers in the environment, has to learn other ways to get along with the rest of society.
Our cultural constructs of family, marriage, etc. could be likened to wearing protective headgear on a shooting range to keep us from going deaf. Do the rules still apply to somebody who's already partially or completely deaf ? Idk. Idk what the rest of you are or are not able to feel.
I do not believe that humans are sociopaths by default. Indeed we live in a society does try to teach empathy, remorse, etc but the brain of a "normal" person many times looks very different than that of a sociopath. The way that we are programmed is a lot different than normal people.

That is an interesting statement, but if it were true, then why is it that most people can emotionally bond with others, experience guilt and remorse and feel affective empathy, while some cannot?
Are those who can't simply slow learners?
