The "failing" economy, and the participation rate.

So... it has come to my attention that people are claiming there is a worker shortage in my country, and probably others.

I believe this is the truth as out walking the last few days I have noticed a large number of "help wanted" signs.

People are not posting job opportunities on the internet, so things seem.

Anyways, the participation rate is something different than the unemployment rate. The unemployment rate is a statistic that measures the number of people who are collecting unemployment insurance. When that runs out, or if those who were previously employed but lose employment but do not collect unemployment insurance, they are not counted in the unemployment rate statistc.

That is why the unemployment rate is a fake statistic. Never pay attention to the unemployment rate.

The real statistic is the "participation rate", and it is nearing an all time low which resembles the 1970s.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/11/08/the-u-s-labor-force-is-still-shrinking-rapidly-heres-why/

The U.S. labor force keeps shrinking rapidly. Back in 2007, 66 percent of Americans had a job or were actively seeking work. Today, that number is at 62.8 percent — the lowest level since 1978:

Let's be real here people. The fact of the matter is, there are jobs out there, that suck, that pay nothing, and they are not worth taking, and the frugal lifestyles that many of us have come to know and love and live with are second nature to us, since we have all done the job thing before and learned that having a job sometimes costs us more money than having no job.

Face it... to bus across town now cost in my city, 2 hours of time, and close to 8.00, which is nearly a full hours pay. Many employers will never fork over more than a 4 hour shift in a day. So it becomes entirely not worth it. Throw in a 30% employee meal discount, and you can earn a whole 20.00 a day, if you are lucky. WTF!!!

So, these trends have got me thinking. It was right around the 1970s when labor unions began striking in violent ways. Here are some vintage clips to spark your memory, since your memory probably has no recollection of these events, since the major media never covers these extremely important historical and current events.

Now you know. Worker demand is very high, they are bringing foreign workers in to work at below human living wages, employers are at a work labor shortage. Plus the economy is booming...

http://www.citynews.ca/2014/05/25/corporate-canada-urged-to-open-coffers-amid-rising-unpaid-interns-foreign-workers/

In recent weeks, Canadian businesses — sitting on historically massive cash reserves — have been under fire for using temporary foreign workers or unpaid interns, and chided by political leaders for failing to raise wages or invest in employee training.

This the current state of the matter. In case you did not know.

When looking for a job, you have the advantage, and negotiating your pay, is your first priority. Do not be desperate to take the first job that comes your way. I hope this helps.

Employers know you are all big fuking babies, and they are going to shit all over you until you cry.

I believe any rise in minimum wage will affect the companies which are helping the countries economy grow even more.  When you add an additional 5-10% of expenses without the ability to raise your costs of goods the profit margins will become next to nothing.

What we will see in the next coming years is small business running out of resources, closing down and being swallowed up by corporate giants.

No, I don't think so... the mega giants are struggling if you ask me... I mean some of the old giants have shut down, but some of the new giants are in retreat as well...

Employers are desperate.

You obviously work for a small business that is paying out top wages to the bosses who are busy constructing their million dollar dream homes, who are beating the crap out of you until you contemplate suicide.

You are typical...

Fuk, I walked into a store today and V8 was 0.99... everywhere else it is over 2.00...

I walked into a warehouse sale, and prices where above retail...

I'm looking on the internet and prices for junk items are skyrocketing...

Fuk... Burger king is offering 0.25 coffee. That's a slap in the face to everyone, and a well deserved one.

...that means people are robbing you completely blind. You are a joke, and the sooner you admit that, the better.

At the same time, if you're not providing a wage people can live on, what right do they have to expect people to be hired and be productive at the job? You can only expect a worsening economy, as people get sick and tired more and more of the system they're enslaved into

I see your point of view, in a sense they are trapped.  They literally cannot provide for themselves let alone their families.  However; the small businesses of the world rely desperately on some minimum wage workers and years out these business must reevaluate their financial plan.

Unfortunately I have to disagree on this one, even though this was a blatant attempt to fish for information.  I own an national I.T. firm.  My employees are paid above standard wages and what we've discovered is white collared workers will give it their all if you help them accomplish their dreams.

My comment was more geared toward the "mom and pop" convenience stores.

Can people really claim the US economy is failing when it represents 23% of the global nominal GDP?
