The notion of self-sacrifice was what made that possible. It's revisited over and over.

I suppose the notion of self sacrifice works best when you're speaking from the perspective of a nonexistent alternate personality.

They were impressed that he was willing to sacrifice himself for the cause, when really, his core self had no idea what was going on.
