Personality Disorders and Music is there a psychological connection ?

Why is it that people with Personality disorders are affected by music more than people without a disorder ?

I think certain kinds of music to someone with a personality disorder fills a emotion that the individual is lacking.

My lack of empathy and remorse, draws me to certain genres of music. That in a sense replaces what I lack thereof.

Nobody has ever done such research as it would be hard to imagine convicts being forced to listen to music with wires on their heads, so it is difficult to give you a straight answer. Nevertheless, we might as well check your theory. I would say that music appeals to me. But then again it is estimated that music provides a similar effect alcohol or sexual intercourse provide, consequently it might affect neurotypicals even more than us.

What genres do you prefer?

And you
bring me to my knees, again
All this time that I could beg you please, in vain
All the times that I felt insecure, for you
And I leave my burdens at the door

But I'm on the outside, I'm looking in
I can see through you, see your true colors
'Cause inside you're ugly, you're ugly like me
I can see through you, see to the real you

All this time that I felt like this won't end, was for you
And I taste what I could never have, its from you
All those times that I tried, my intention, full of pride
And I waste more time than anyone

But I'm on the outside, I'm looking in
I can see through you, see your true colors
'Cause inside you're ugly, you're ugly like me
I can see through you, see to the real you

All the times that I've cried , all this wasted, it's all inside
And I feel, all this pain, stuffed it down, it's back again
And I lie here in bed, all alone, I can't mend
But I feel tomorrow will be okay

But I'm on the outside I'm looking in
I can see through you, see your true colors
'Cause inside you're ugly, you're ugly like me
I can see through you, see to the real you

Music can generate deep emotions. I heard that they won't play music when executing prisoners (as some have requested) as it instills too much feeling for the inmate and those viewing the execution.

I'm just a normal boy
That sank when I fell overboard
My ship would leave the country
But I'd rather swim ashore

Without a life vest I'd be stuck again
Wish I was much more masculine
Maybe then I could learn to swim
Like 'fourteen miles away'

Now floating up and down
I spin, colliding into sound
Like whales beneath me diving down
I'm sinking to the bottom of my
Everything that freaks me out
The lighthouse beam has just run out
I'm cold as cold as cold can be
Be

I want to swim away but don't know how
Sometimes it feels just like I'm fallin' in the ocean
Let the waves up take me down
Let the hurricane set in motion, yeah
Let the rain of what I feel right now, come down
Let the rain come down

Where is the coastguard
I keep looking each direction
For a spotlight, give me something
I need something for protection
Maybe flotsam junk will do just fine
The jetsam sunk, I'm left behind
I'm treading for my life believe me
(How can I keep up this breathing)

Not knowing how to think
I scream aloud, begin to sink
My legs and arms are broken down
With envy for the solid ground
I'm reaching for the life within me
How can one man stop his ending
I thought of just your face
Relaxed, and floated into space
I want to swim away but don't know how

Sometimes it feels just like I'm fallin' in the ocean
Let the waves up take me down
Let the hurricane set in motion, yeah
Let the rain of what I feel right now, come down
Let the rain come down
Now waking to the sun
I calculate what I had done
Like jumping from the bow, yeah
Just to prove that I knew how, yeah
It's midnight's late reminder of
The loss of her, the one I love
My will to quickly end it all

It seems like you've made assumption, and then decided to ask why that assumption was true, before even proving whether or not it was true. I'm not really moved much by music, though sometimes I connect it with things that I'm feeling, we all do this, whether or not anyone has a personality disorder. Though sometimes people don't, whether or not they have a personality disorder. I'm not diagnosed currently with a personality disorder, so that kind of skews that conclusion a little, huh?

Where is the research that suggests this is true?

I think that depends on the individual.

Listening to music and even singing it, doesn't affect me emotionally. It's just a pleasant sound. At least for awhile anyway. After about an hour of listening to it, music becomes irritating noise.

Now that I look at it, it was misleading. It was merley a hypothesis. I have spoken to a few sociopaths in the prison system and it was something I picked up on during our conversations. The few I had spoken with, talked about how music had affected them in a almost a spiritual way.

And you were certain they were sociopaths, or better yet, certain they weren't lying?

How did you get the opportunity to speak to a few sociopaths in the prison system? (assuming you're even being honest about that).
