I disagree. He originally told the lie about sapphires to protect her from being raped, since he gained a bit of respect for her as a fighter (as a man, so to speak), and he was content to leave her behind until he learned that she would be killed because Bolton's lackey expected sapphires.

If you're trying to say that he was motivated by her relationship with Catelyn, I'd be interested to hear your reasoning. Otherwise, I'm not sure what you mean. My perspective might also be biased by the fact that I have read the books, and I do know what happens next.

Well, since it's unlikely that the languages of Westeros are written in the Latin alphabet, any transliteration would be based on sounds, and you'd end up with multiple possible spellings of the same word, so you're still correct, if you want to be.

A bit more insight into Jaime's character - I agree with your assessment of him as a narcissist. Cersei is his twin sister, in their minds they are two halves of the same person. She's the only woman he's ever loved, possibly the only woman he's capable of loving, and at the root it's nothing but self love.

I see. That level of insight into the more subtle intricacies of the relationship between Cersei and Jaime would be difficult to convey on screen without breaking the "show don't tell" rule. Or too thorough an explanation would look wrong at this point in the story, at least. The writers and production crew may be planning to allow that dynamic to unfold gradually as the show progresses.

I must read the books soon. I've been putting it off bc I don't want to spoil the show for myself ;)

I think they can find a way to show the dynamic, since the two have been separated for awhile, and Cersei has been shifting to an even more Machiavellian personality, while Jaime is shifting toward a more noble one. You should read the books, you'll start to see the Cersei/Jaime relationship as disturbingly romantic.

They're used to looking into each other's eyes and seeing their own reflection.
