Oppositional Defiant Disorder in Adults

Even in kids, it kind of pathologizes nonconformity. Though not diagnosed in adults, c'mon, we're still no less disagreeable as adults. Though we accept that this is normal for adults, albeit not something people seem to like, as they start to question if we're "part of their group".

Symptoms

Actively does not follow adults' requests

Angry and resentful of others

Argues with adults

Blames others for own mistakes

Has few or no friends or has lost friends

Is in constant trouble in school

Loses temper

Spiteful or seeks revenge

Touchy or easily annoyed

That being said, were you diagnosed this as a child? And I don't care if you believe it to be a disorder, I don't either, much less and adult one. Are you still this way as an adult? Are you a better adapted version of this?

I was diagnosed, but I still think I was always reasonable and cooperative. I just have a strong mind. I'm better adapted than I was though.

I don't think this should be a thing. All kids are like this and it's ridiculous. The only kids who are diagnosed are the ones with paranoid parents and an irresponsible psychologist who believes in medicating children. The system that chooses the diagnoses is fucked and no one should have to listen to it. Does this diagnose me? Probably. Anyone who went in asking about it would be diagnosed, like really, do the signs not define humanity? If not individuality?

"All kids are like this and it's ridiculous."

I didn't have most of those traits as a kid. Pretty much just "Spiteful or seeks revenge" and "Touchy or easily annoyed". I also knew plenty of others that did not conform to majority of the above symptoms.

I was diagnosed with ODD as a teen, even though I attempted to manipulate my shrink by lying so as to minimize the severity of my trouble-making in her view. As an adult, I still possess a lot of these traits, and have issues with authority. This is part of the reason I chose to become an entrepreneur :P

I had/have very few of these symptoms.  What you said above sounds like it might be a typical view of a person with this "disorder"

Mainly because of how I acted in Elementary school. Then it became conduct disorder. It was mainly because between just not doing what I was supposed to and getting an education, and getting into constant fights, they thought I was. I still think it was just because I was bored in school though. I did manage to turn it around by high school. Also, my home life sucked, which I think bled into school and how I acted there. There were physical altercations, skipping school, intentionally getting myself suspended, and not doing my homework.

Why it turned into Conduct Disorder is because it got progressively worse, and eventually criminal. I was told that if I didn't change I'd end up in juvy so many times. I eventually did change though. It took until my mid teens and a juvenile record but I did it.
