Is there any meaning to this?

Let this be a thread to post about conclusions, correlations, associations you have doubts about and allow them to picked apart.

Allow me to start:  Are nearly all slasher movie bad guys masked?  Michael Meyers, Texas Chainsaw Massacre guys, Jason Voorhees, etc.  Few don't, such as Freddy Kreugar or Chucky.  Why their exemption to the norm?

Freddy has burns all over his body and Chucky is a doll so you don't need to make them 'creepier'.

There's another approach to this the one that italian 'giallo' movies took during the '70s: the killer is never seen on camera or just a silouhette (sp?) or a pov shot.

Chucky had a mask of sorts. He could hide in plain sight with ease by just acting like a toy. His physical form was his mask.

Freddie couldn't afford to conceal himself, as if no one remembered him or feared him he'd cease to exist. Being high profile is essential for his survival.

In the movie Maniac (2012), the murderer played by Elijah Wood's mask is arguably the camera itself. We see him only when he looks in mirrors, otherwise we're left with his voice and sounds of movement as we watch from a first person perspective. Instead of masking him from the world around him, he is hidden from us, leaving how he must look at most times up to the imagination. It's on Netflix.

I also highly recommend watching the original Maniac(1980).

Both are good (which is rare for a remake of a '80s horror movie) and both are a 'realistic' take on a slasher movie.
