Who would you consider as some of your favorite people. It could be in history, present day, fictional or even someone on this forum.
How do you relate them.
My big 3 are:
1.) Napoleon Bonaparte - His military genius and the way he all around carried himself. I can also relate to his rise to power and how he led his life.
2.) Bruce Lee - Lee's road to self actualization is what I admire the most about him. His indomitable will and his perspective on life are legendary.
3.) Julius Caesar - Besides his unchallenged elocution and oration, Veni Vidi Vici. I think that speaks for itself.
I thought Bree Lee was pretty awesome when I was younger. I wanted to be just like him. Bruce Lee is dead, though he is still a legend in my opinion.
I like Jet Li these days. My fave movie that he's in is Unleashed.
There isn't really anybody else I consider an inspiration, an icon, or legendary in any way. Though, I think Hitler was legendary in a way. I would love to have the power he had.
1. Leonardo Da Vinci - This man. This man. To quote Wikipedia: He "was an Italian Renaissance polymath: painter, sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer." He did it all. And he has influenced many of the modern discoveries. All the while, he stayed true to himself.
2. Yeshu of Nazareth [Jesus of Nazarteh / Jesus Christ] - Although I am not religious, I cannot help but stand in awe at the prowess this man possessed. He single-handedly changed the course of history. Although not all of the things that have happened because of his existence has been positive, modern Christianity does keep a very simple and respectable moral code.
3. My parents - Everyone is influenced by their parents in some way or another. And for me, my parents played a very large role in my life. Without their unconditional love and support, I could not have become the successful and driven person that I am today.
The Little Prince.
Because of the drive for self discovery.
Steven Weinberg.
Because he views reality for what it is and not what he wishes it to be.
Samuel Langhorne Clemens.
For being a self-righteous asshole I can relate to.
Mind you, all these characters, whether real or not, are as fallible as anyone else. It is the ideals they represent/purport that amuse me.

Yes, but not always in a positive way. Some of us were raised by abusive, alcoholic parents.
Without their unconditional love...
I don't believe in unconditional love.
How can you possibly know if someone loves you unconditionally? Does it mean they would they still love you no matter what you do to them?
That seems naive to me.

I don't believe in unconditional love. In fact, it's hard for me to believe in love at all when I've never felt it.

I understand that not all people are affected positively by their parents. But positive or negative, it's still an effect.
I know my parents love me unconditionally because of all of the shit I put them through when I was growing up. Even though I treated them like complete shit, took them for granted, and stopped acknowledging them altogether, they never once gave up on me. When I dropped out of college, my father gave me a place to stay and a job with his business. He pushed me back into school - and even paid for my lower education. They drove me everyday back and forth to school and work, until my father bought another vehicle just to give to me. Once I moved onto grad school, both he and my mother allowed me to stay with them, not asking for ANYTHING in return, as long as I succeed. And so I did. I know that this isn't nearly as deep as I could make it and it doesn't highlight everything they've done for me, and I know that not everyone, or even no one, will relate to this. My parents did an amazing job pushing me in the right direction. They, alone, have had the greatest impact on my life. Even now, that I'm out of their house and on my own, they still call me every once in a while to make sure my life is on track and that I'm happy and comfortable.
My parents would do anything for me.
No matter how many times I fucked up, came home drunk and high, or they had to bail me out of jail, they stuck by me and had faith in me. That is unconditional love. And it is an incredibly beautiful thing.
