I love darkness. I love the night time. I often venture out at night and wander through the woods and the forests. I love the animals that come out at night also. Owls, foxes, bats, rats.
I like it. Less humans, more stars and the moon, cooler wildlife, everything looks better.

It's less that I'm attracted to darkness and more that I am sensitive to light. Opening the drapes in my home during the day is like purposely staring at a spotlight, so I tend to keep my surroundings dark for the sake of seeing things.
That being said, I love how lights bounce off the night, especially colored lights off wet pavement. Far better than one gigantic light of blindness and eye aching.

Your "mysterious" sensitivity to light is called Adaptation. To solve this problem you are having you will need to go outside from time to time during the day. If I were a weirdo that stayed inside all day in a dark room. I to would complain of the light when I opened the drapes during the day.
